REVIEW

I live in CST. I got this from my university’s mail services at around 11:00 am and got back to my apartment at around 11:05 and began reading it then. I literally just closed the book and finished reading it in its entirety 7 minutes ago as it stands right now as I am typing this (5:55 pm). It was such a great book. Easy read, and very enjoyable. Admittedly as it stands right now, I don’t think the book is Canon to the MCU, but it presents interesting information nonetheless and if you love the MCU as much as I do, then you’ll definitely enjoy this book.

Also first review for any product I’ve ever ordered off this website ever. I hope it was good! 99% of the stuff I’ve ordered off here are math textbooks. I say this because I really loved this book and I hope that you, another reader, will too 🙂

This was either a five-star book, or a three-star book, so I went down the middle. There is a lot I loved about it, but also a big issue that weakened the story. Infinity War did a good job of building Thanos despite having only one film to do it in, but he was still mostly one-dimensional as an antagonist. The ultimate ecoterrorist who also loved his daughter. Liga never manages to make me sympathize with Thanos (as I did with Loki & Killmonger), but he does make him a more complex and fully formed character.

The worldbuilding, the society, and Thanos’ life on Titan are all expertly crafted and take up more than half the book. It was time well spent! The book absolutely shines throughout this part. Liga goes into detail about how Titan is structured, and where the flaws are in that structure. This was the closest I felt to identifying with Thanos. The tried and true Daddy issues are his foundation, but Liga builds upon that very well with his outsider status. The people of Titan come in many hues, but not purple. That is the color of death (hello, foreshadowing!) and Titans, despite being so technologically advanced, are superstitious about it. Very realistic. I also liked how the book focuses on Thanos’ super genius intellect, which was completely set aside in the film, that further ostracizes him from his people. He reminds me of Ultron. Thanos is the only one who can see, through calculation and data analysis, what will befall his homeworld. But, his moral compass is too skewed to see how his people were sure to react, or why his “solution” is wrong.

The Natural Soap Making Book for Beginners: Do-It-Yourself Soaps Using All-Natural Herbs, Spices, and Essential Oils

READ or DOWNLOAD

Are you an aspiring “soaper” not sure which soap making books to start with? This complete beginner’s guide to cold-processed soap making shows you the basics, so you can get creative with natural, healthy ingredients―and get squeaky clean, too.

REVIEW

I really like this book for the information on natural alternatives to harsher chemicals and for the awesome recipes. I am of African descent with tight, curls. The first soap I ever made was the Goat Milk and Honey Shampoo Bar. I really liked how it cleaned my hair and left it shiny and well defined. My whole family was impressed. I am looking forward to using some of these other recipes.

This book is beautifully created! Absolutely perfect for starters. The layout and organization is well thought out and so much knowledge is shared in a very easy to digest manner. A great balance between both the art and the science behind soap making. I found most helpful were the conversion charts, the natural colorant color swatches, the easy-to-understand use of SAP values, and the immense amount of starter recipes. I truly understand how to craft my own recipe using percentages and SAP values.

This book is one book of a collection and should not be your only source though. I found this author had subjective views on which oils should and shouldn’t be used for “ethical reasons” and which additives shouldn’t be used based on the authors “research”, but please note the author does not share any of this research in the form of footnotes or asterisks or are any of the research listed in the references part of the book.

Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup

In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the female Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with a machine that would make blood testing significantly faster and easier. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.7 billion. There was just one problem: The technology didn’t work.

A riveting story of the biggest corporate fraud since Enron, a tale of ambition and hubris set amid the bold promises of Silicon Valley.

In Bad Blood, the Wall Street Journal’s John Carreyrou takes us through the step-by-step history of Theranos, a Silicon Valley startup that became almost mythical, in no small part due to its young, charismatic founder Elizabeth Holmes. In fact, Theranos was mythical for a different reason, because the technological promise it was founded upon—that vital health information could be gleaned from a small drop of blood using handheld devices—was a lie. Carreyrou tracks the experiences of former employees to craft the fascinating story of a company run under a strict code of secrecy, a place where leadership was constantly throwing up smoke screens and making promises that it could not keep. Meanwhile, investors kept pouring in money, turning Elizabeth Holmes into a temporary billionaire. As companies like Walgreens and Safeway strike deals with Theranos, and as even the army tries to get in on the Theranos promise (there’s a brief cameo by James “Mad Dog” Mattis), the plot thickens and the proverbial noose grows tighter. Although I knew how the story ended, I found myself reading this book compulsively. – Chris Schluep

Pianists Guide to Standard Teaching and Performance Literature

This reference book is an invaluable resource for teachers, students and performers for evaluating and selecting piano solo literature. Concise and thoroughly researched, thousands of works, from the Baroque through the Contemporary periods, have been graded and evaluated in detail. Includes an alphabetical list of composers, explanations of works, and much more.

REVIEWS

1.It deliberately limits itself to things the author believes no harder than the Bach Three-Part Inventions or Beethoven Op 49. It also largely avoids transcriptions. The text tends to be about as succinct as that in Hinson, and thus just as frustrating: a little more detail, even if opinionated, often would be welcome. It also mostly limits itself to things in print at the time of its publication over twenty years ago. With the rise of the web and IMSLP this is an unfortunate limitation for things published in past centuries; and, of course, it necessarily omits the wonderful resources now published electronically directly by composers.

On the good side, I think there is a serious, and welcome, effort to include some pretty obscure things, particularly relatively easy ones. I’m pretty sure there are things in here I’ve not seen cited elsewhere. And it shows considerable respect to some valuable, easy pieces that aren’t profound enough to get much play in most other reference works. Again, it is over twenty years old, though, so nothing really recent, nor reflecting recent revisions of taste, are included.

2.It does have an oddly hit or miss quality in some cases. For example, only a few of the Mompou Cancion e Danza and Impressiones Intimas are mentioned, though I’m pretty sure many of those neglected are still in the difficulty range covered.

As a physical object it is substandard: it is feebly bound and pages were coming out within an hour of my first opening it. This is particular frustrating in a reference work.

On balance, I guess I’d categorize it as a good start, but it could benefit tremendously from a thorough revision and updating. Though perhaps in this day and age such a revision would be better as a living on-line resource rather than as a static book.

Featuring a new paperback cover to match hardcover of Kingdom Keepers II

REVIEW

1. I was skeptical of this series at first because so many books have tackled Disney related stories.
But it wasn’t long into this first book here that I realized that this was unique.
It had a bit of everything a YA book could and should have.
It has a good story line, good mystery, great characters, good versus evil, heroes versus villains, old and new technology, but mostly a sit on the edge of your chair excitement and expectations.
And it was all very relatable.
Good job Mr. Pearson, good job indeed!
Sincerely,
Alan McDonald

2.

I got this book for free after seeing it on the Kindle Buffett list. I did not know the author or the series but chose it because the description made me feel like it could be like the Harry Potter series. The book does have some resemblance to Harry Potter. Similarities to Potter: (1) The book involves magic (good and bad); (2) the book involves kids befriending one another for a greater cause (instead of Harry, Ron and Hermione et al — there is Finn, Maybeck, Charlene, Willa, and Phillby) ; (3) This book involves one main boy being the leader (Instead of Harry it’s Finn); (4) the book has a wise old man character who speaks in riddles of sorts and is never as direct as he should be who guides the kids ( Instead of Dumbledore it’s Wayne).

Summary:
13 year old Lawrence Finnegan Whitman (Finn) was chosen to become a Disney Interactive Host (DHI) along with 4 other kids. They all start having the same “dream” and then are pulled into a quest to solve a riddle and stop evil from taking over the Park and the World outside the park.

I am a Florida native and have visited Disney World more times than I care to remember but this book made me see it with new eyes and I appreciated that. The book also made me want to learn more about Disney – the park and the man. I am likely to read the rest of the books in the series and believe that if you are an adult who enjoyed the Harry Potter series then you will probably enjoy this book as well.

The War on Normal People The Truth About America's

The War on Normal People The Truth About America’s

READ or DOWNLOAD

The New York Times bestseller from 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, this thought-provoking and prescient call-to-action outlines the urgent steps America must take, including Universal Basic Income (UBI), to stabilize our economy amid rapid technological change and automation. The shift toward automation is about to create a tsunami of unemployment. Not in the distant future–now. One recent estimate predicts 45 million American workers will lose their jobs within the next twelve years–jobs that won’t be replaced. In a future marked by restlessness and chronic unemployment, what will happen to American society?

In The War on Normal People, Andrew Yang paints a dire portrait of the American economy. Rapidly advancing technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics and automation software are making millions of Americans’ livelihoods irrelevant. The consequences of these trends are already being felt across our communities in the form of political unrest, drug use, and other social ills. The future looks dire-but is it unavoidable?

In The War on Normal People, Yang imagines a different future–one in which having a job is distinct from the capacity to prosper and seek fulfillment. At this vision’s core is Universal Basic Income, the concept of providing all citizens with a guaranteed income-and one that is rapidly gaining popularity among forward-thinking politicians and economists. Yang proposes that UBI is an essential step toward a new, more durable kind of economy, one he calls “human capitalism.”

Review

“Andrew Yang is one of those rare visionaries who puts dreams into action. The War on Normal People is both a clear-eyed look at the depths of our social and economic problems and an innovative roadmap toward a better future.”―Arianna Huffington, Founder and CEO of Thrive Global

“This book is a must read. Andrew Yang is tackling one of the biggest challenges facing our country the way only an entrepreneur can, but unlike most, he sees the big picture. Making money is good for you-but building a strong society and strong people is good for all of us. The topics Andrew addresses in this book aren’t about some dystopian future way down the road. These things are happening today, and every entrepreneur should read this book to understand the challenges of the next decade.”―Daymond John, star of ABC’s Shark Tank, bestselling author of The Power of Broke, and founder of FUBU

Discover your own deep well of wisdom in Intuition: Knowing Beyond Logic―from one of the greatest spiritual teachers of the twentieth century.

Intuition deals with the difference between the intellectual, logical mind and the more encompassing realm of spirit. Logic is how the mind knows reality, intuition is how the spirit experiences reality. Osho’s discussion of these matters is wonderfully lucid, occasionally funny, and thoroughly engrossing.

All people have a natural capacity for intuition, but often social conditioning and formal education work against it. People are taught to ignore their instincts rather than to understand and use them as a foundation for individual growth and development―and in the process they undermine the very roots of the innate wisdom that is meant to flower into intuition.

In this volume, Osho pinpoints exactly what intuition is and gives guidelines for how to identify its functioning in others and ourselves. You will learn to distinguish between genuine intuitive insight and the “wishful thinking” that can often lead to mistaken choices and unwanted consequences. Includes many specific exercises and meditations designed to nourish and support each individual’s natural intuitive gifts.

Osho challenges readers to examine and break free of the conditioned belief systems and prejudices that limit their capacity to enjoy life in all its richness. He has been described by the Sunday Times of London as one of the “1000 Makers of the 20th Century” and by Sunday Mid-Day (India) as one of the ten people―along with Gandhi, Nehru, and Buddha―who have changed the destiny of India. Since his death in 1990, the influence of his teachings continues to expand, reaching seekers of all ages in virtually every country of the world.

About the Author

Osho is one of the most provocative and inspiring spiritual teachers of the twentieth century. Known for his revolutionary contribution to the science of inner transformation, the influence of his teachings continues to grow, reaching seekers of all ages in virtually every country of the world. He is the author of many books, including Love, Freedom, AlonenessThe Book of Secrets, and Innocence, Knowledge, and Wonder.

Brief yet thorough and affordably priced, The Ethical Life: Fundamental Readings in Ethics and Moral Problems, Fourth Edition, is ideal for courses in introductory ethics and contemporary moral problems. Featuring forty-two readings divided into four parts–The Good Life, Normative Ethics, Metaethics, and Moral Problems–it introduces students to ethical theory and a wide range of moral issues. The essays include selections from such historically influential philosophers as Aristotle, Hume, Kant, and Mill alongside work by contemporary philosophers like Philippa Foot, Robert Nozick, Peter Singer, and Judith Jarvis Thomson. Detailed reading introductions provide helpful contextual information.

Designed as a companion reader to Russ Shafer-Landau’s textbook, The Fundamentals of Ethics, Fourth Edition, this volume is also comprehensive enough to be used on its own.

Review

“The chief strength of the book is that it is perfectly comprehensive, covering essential literature ranging from general issues of value theory to metaethics to ethical theory and then on to applied ethics. Shafer-Landau’s writing style is very clear and perfectly appropriate for any college-level student.”–Jamie Phillips, Clarion University of Pennsylvania

“This is the best introductory textbook of primary sources in moral philosophy. Paired with The Fundamentals of Ethics, this is perfectly suited for an introductory undergraduate course in ethics.”–Aleksander Pjevalica, University of Texas at El Paso

“Shafer-Landau’s writing is exceptional. The introductions tend to be spot-on. The book’s affordable pricing (especially as part of the package with The Fundamentals of Ethics) and small size are added bonuses.”–Robert M. Farley, Hillsborough Community College

“I think that this book is great: I like that it is shorter than the huge 700+-page books out there, and way less expensive too. I also like that there are instructor manual resources available.”–Phil Jenkins, Marywood University

“I have always liked the test bank questions that OUP supplies with its course materials, and these are no exception (I can’t say the same about every publisher!).”–David Burris, Arizona Western College
